What the one-time price gets you

WP Super Cache is free, so there is no cost comparison to make. Novra Cache is paid once. Here is what that payment gets you, and what it does not.

The price does not buy speed. We have not run benchmarks, and both plugins serve ready-made pages. If a page cache is all you need, WP Super Cache is a good choice, and it costs nothing. Novra Cache's Remove Unused CSS needs an active license.

Which one is right for you?

Choose WP Super Cache if …

You want a free page cache and nothing more.

You want a plugin made by Automattic that has been on WordPress.org since 2007.

You like a one-switch start with its Easy tab.

You want Expert mode, which serves static files through Apache rewrite rules.

You want your file links rewritten to a CDN, or you run a multisite network.

You want more choices for logged-in visitors, or you run PHP 7.4.

Not sure? Install Novra Cache on your own site and judge it there. If it's not the right fit, request a full refund within 30 days.

Where WP Super Cache is stronger

A fair comparison names both sides. These are the areas where WP Super Cache does more today.

It is free.

WP Super Cache costs nothing and is licensed under the GPL, with no Pro version. Novra Cache is a paid plugin.

Made by Automattic, with a long track record.

WP Super Cache has been on WordPress.org since 2007 and has 1+ million active installations, according to WordPress.org (8 October 2026). Novra Cache is at version 1.0.0.

One switch to start, finer rules when you need them.

Its Easy tab turns caching on with one switch and a set of recommended settings. When you need more, it has rules for page types, rejected user agents, cleanup at set times and email notifications.

Expert mode.

It serves static files through Apache rewrite rules, without running PHP, and can serve pre-compressed files. Novra Cache serves pages through one PHP file in WordPress.

CDN URL rewriting.

It rewrites your file links to a CDN host, with extra CNAMEs and exclusions. Novra Cache does not rewrite file links.

Multisite.

A network admin page, a cache switch for each site and a button to delete the cache on all sites.

More options for logged-in visitors.

You can cache for everyone, skip visitors with a cookie, or make known users anonymous. Novra Cache always serves logged-in visitors a fresh page.

Cache Rebuild and dynamic caching.

While a page is being rebuilt, it serves the old copy to anonymous visitors. For developers, parts of a cached page can stay dynamic.

Runs on older PHP.

WP Super Cache needs PHP 7.4 and WordPress 6.8. Novra Cache needs PHP 8.1 and WordPress 6.2.

If none of these is a must-have for your sites, Novra Cache covers the rest – and you pay for it once.

Good questions.
Clear answers.

Yes. WP Super Cache is free on WordPress.org and licensed under the GPL. It has no Pro version, and everything in the plugin is available without a license. It is made by Automattic.

A one-time license ($79 for 1 site, $149 for 5, $249 for 25, $399 for unlimited sites) with updates for the life of the license. You get minify, Delay JavaScript, automatic Remove Unused CSS, WebP and AVIF images made on your own server, lazy loading, local Google Fonts, a Script Manager, database cleanup, Cloudflare and NGINX cache clearing and WooCommerce rules. You do not pay for speed. We haven't run benchmarks.

If a page cache is all you need, keep WP Super Cache. It costs nothing and does that job well. Novra Cache is for when you want the work after the page cache in one place: CSS and JavaScript, images, fonts, scripts, database and Cloudflare. WP Super Cache recommends Jetpack Boost for optimizations beyond caching.

It has no WooCommerce-specific rules in its code, and its documentation doesn't describe any. For cart and checkout it relies on WooCommerce telling it not to cache those pages, and it clears pages through WordPress's standard hooks. Novra Cache has its own rules: it skips the cache for shoppers with items in the cart and refreshes products when stock changes. Whichever you use, test a cart and checkout while logged out before you go live.

Not as two page caches. Only one plugin can be your page cache, so switch WP Super Cache off, and remove the rules it wrote, before you turn on caching in Novra Cache. In Expert mode, WP Super Cache writes its rules into your .htaccess file.

Make a backup of your site and note your WP Super Cache settings first: the caching mode, rejected URLs and cookies, and CDN settings. Turn WP Super Cache's caching off and deactivate the plugin. Check that its block (marked "WPSuperCache") is gone from your .htaccess file. Then activate Novra Cache. Novra Cache does not import WP Super Cache settings, so set it up step by step: check the health panel, turn on page caching, then add code and image improvements one group at a time. Check your key pages while logged out after each step. The Novra Cache documentation explains each setting. For a longer walkthrough with rollback, read our step-by-step switch guide.

  1. Deactivate Novra Cache.
  2. Reactivate WP Super Cache and turn caching on again in its Easy tab.
  3. Clear your Cloudflare and host cache, then check your key pages while logged out.

Inside Novra Cache you can also export your settings as a file before you change them, and reset everything from the Tools tab. And if Novra Cache isn't the right fit, request a full refund within 30 days.

We don't promise that. Both plugins serve ready-made pages. The difference is what else you get and how you pay. The best test is your own site: measure it with our free speed test, try Novra Cache, and compare.

PAY ONCE. KEEP IT.

Everything after the page cache – in one plugin, paid for once.
